Emergent Intelligence
Emergence Intelligence is the intelligence responsible for creativity, visionary thinking, sense-making and innovation. It is called “Emergent” because it involves the emergence of new things: new ideas, new connections, new perspectives. A characteristic of Emergent Intelligence is the ability to select and connect seemingly unrelated elements and recombine them in a new and not obvious way to produce something that did not exist before.
Emergent Intelligence is based on a different process in the brain than cognitive and emotional modes of thinking1. Though still largely unexplored and only partly understood, research shows that it is possible to create conditions that promote the occurrence of emergent processes. By strengthening people's ability to create those conditions their creative, visionary, innovative and sense-making capabilities can be improved2.
